Facility Access

It is required that members provide identification via a valid Illinois i-card, visitor card, or Illini ID (the QR code found in the Illinois App wallet) to gain access to Campus Recreation facilities and services.

Summer 2024 Access

Students enrolled in at least 3 credit hours during the Summer Session and have been assessed the Student Service Fee have Summer access to Campus Recreation facilities. Students not enrolled in Summer courses will need to purchase a Summer membership in-person at the ARC Member Services desk for $115 (valid 6/10-8/19) to retain facility access through the summer.

Forms of Identification

Use one of the following forms of identification to gain facility access

Valid i-cards can be tapped or swiped at ARC and CRCE entrance turnstiles. Possession of an i-card does not guarantee valid membership with Campus Recreation. Illinois i-cards are property of the University. Campus Recreation staff will confiscate misused, expired, or invalid i-cards and may ask the person(s) to leave the facility.

Visitor Card

Persons eligible for Campus Recreation memberships but not issued an i-card will be issued an Illinois Visitor Card. Patrons can start by purchasing a membership at the Member Services desk, where they will be given a Visitor Card Request Form. The completed form can be turned into the Urbana ID Center to obtain a Visitor Card. Provided the membership is valid, a Visitor Card is only valid to gain access to Campus Rec facilities, and does not prove status within the University or allow the holder with access to MTD busses or the library.

If the back of your i-card or visitor has a small blue icon in the top right corner, you can tap your card on top of the outer three turnstiles to the left of the central Member Services station.

University-affiliate patrons can scan the QR code in their Illinois App wallet at the turnstiles closed to the central Member Services station.

All patrons can swipe their i-card or visitor card at the turnstiles closest to the central Member Services station.

Facility Access without Identification

Members who forget their i-card or visitor card may ask for a UIN look-up by presenting a valid government issued photo ID at the Member Service desk. All users must present their original government issued photo ID. A screenshot or scanned copy is not acceptable. Acceptable government-issued photo identification can be one of the following:

  • Driver’s license
  • Passport
  • Military ID
  • Permanent resident card

  • Campus Recreation is fully authorized to deny entrance to its facilities if a patron cannot produce valid identification.
  • Misuse of IDs, including using screenshots of the Illini ID QR code, to gain facility access is considered fraud.
  • Campus Recreation staff will confiscate misused, expired, or invalid i-cards.
  • Misuse of IDs may result in loss of membership privileges.
