Fitness/Health Assessment

  • Resting Blood Pressure/Heart Rate
  • Body Composition
    Used to describe the percentages of fat, bone, and muscle in the human body.

    • height and weight
    • body mass index (BMI)
    • waist/hip ratio
    • body fat percentage (Tanita Bio-Impedance Scale)
  • Cardiorespiratory Endurance
    The ability of the circulatory and respiratory systems to supply oxygen to skeletal muscles during sustained physical activity.
    Select one of the following:

    • YMCA step test
    • 1 mile Rockport walk test
    • BYU submaximal jog test
    • 1.5 mile run test
  • Muscular Endurance
    The ability of a muscle or group of muscles to sustain repeated contractions against a resistance for an extended period of time.
    Includes all of the following:

    • push-up test or YMCA bench press test
    • plank hold test or curl up test
    • timed wall sit
  • Muscular Strength
    The ability of a muscle or group of muscle to generate maximal force against physical objects during a single contraction or exercise.
    Includes all of the following:

    • 4-RM bench press
    • 4-RM leg press
    • hand grip strength test
  • Flexibility
    The distance, degree, or range of motion of a joint throughout a specific movement.
    Includes all of the following:

    • sit and reach
    • shoulder mobility

Performance Assessment

  • Power
    The timed rate of work performed by a muscle or group of muscles during a single explosive contraction or movement.
    Select two of the following:

    • vertical jump test – lower body power
    • broad jump – lower body power
    • Margaria-Kalamen test – lower body power
    • medicine ball throw – upper body power
  • Speed
    The magnitude of an objects velocity or rate of change of its position through time.

    • 40 yard dash
  • Agility
    The ability to change the body’s position and direction quickly and efficiently through a specific task or demand.
    Includes one of the following:

    • agility T-test
    • Illinois agility test
  • Anaerobic Endurance
    The ability of a muscle to sustain intense, short duration activity.
    Includes one of the following:

    • 300 yard shuttle
    • sprint fatigue test
  • Kinesthetic Awareness
    The body’s abilities to coordinate movement and awareness of its location in time and space.
    Includes all of the following:

    • stork balance stand test – measures balance
    • alternate hand wall toss test – measures hand eye coordination
  • Reaction Time
    The ability to involuntarily and nearly instantaneously respond to a stimulus.

    • ruler test

Dynamic Strength Assessment

  • Dynamic Strength
    The ability of a person to exert force on physical objects using a combination of different muscles or muscle groups repeatedly throughout a controlled movement.
