Cool Off on the Ice

The University of Illinois Ice Arena offers a variety of skating opportunities for the campus and surrounding communities.

In addition to instructional ice skating programs (Learn-to-Skate) and public skating sessions, the arena supports intramural sport leagues and club activities including Illini Hockey. The arena was also home to world and Olympic speed skating champion Bonnie Blair.

The Annual Spring Show at the UI Ice Arena will take place on Saturday, March 11.  More information will be available in the upcoming weeks.


Spring 2017 – Learn to Skate
Registration for Spring 2017 Learn to Skate classes will open on Wednesday, January 4 for Members and Monday, January 9 for Non-Members.  Classes are 4 weeks long and will take place on Saturdays, Mondays, or Thursdays from February 4 – March 9. View the class descriptions and schedule.


Sled Hockey Event at Ice Arena – 12/10
Stop by the UI Ice Arena on Saturday, December 10 from 10am-1pm to see Illini Hockey vs. Chicago Hornets sled hockey teams in game one. Followed by the Chicago Blackhawks vs. St. Louis Blues in game two.  Admission is free and fans will be able to try out the sled hockey equipment on the ice after the game!


Moonlight Skate Event – 12/17 & 12/18 

Don’t miss out on the Ice Arena’s Moonlight Skate December 17 & 18. The rink will be decorated with beautiful trees, lights and decorations for all skaters to enjoy! Picture-taking opportunities will be available on the ice as well. Come feel like you are in a Winter Wonderland! Saturday, December 17: 1:30-4 p.m. & 7:30 – 9 p.m.; Sunday, December 18: 1:30 – 4 p.m.
