Fitness Programs

In addition to the weekly offerings of group fitness classes, patrons can also participate in programs throughout the semester as an introduction or supplement to their fitness routine.

ILLINI SPIRIT Group Fitness Free Week

Join us for FREE WEEK where you get an all access pass to group fitness classes at NO COST to you! Whether you’re a fan of yoga, cardio-style classes, or weight-lifting, there is an option for you. And, in honor of homecoming week, the theme this week is Illini Spirit Week! Complete an Illini Punch Card to win cool prizes. Stay active this second half of the semester!

Walk Across Illinois

Looking for a fun way to get active and improve your health and well-being? Take part in Campus Rec’s Walk Across Illinois Challenge! The state of Illinois is 390 miles from N to S and 210 miles from E to W. Commit to walking one of those distances over the fall semester! Record your steps on the StepsApp pedometer app, then receive a t-shirt upon completion.

Workout in the Water (WOW)

Start your day with a low impact class while enjoying lively music in the pool! Use water and equipment for resistance, muscle toning, and increasing endurance and flexibility. No swimming skills needed! Join instructor, Claire Whetstone Prudhomme, an exercise master trainer and international presenter with 30 years of experience. Register before August 18.

Steady Strides

If you’re looking for accountability and a fun way to get active at lunch-time, register for Steady Strides! This program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon for 10 weeks starting September 13. Some days will consist of hill runs, others will be throughout campus, and you’ll be sure to find cool new routes around town. Join us as we take advantage of the nice weather and get active together.

Feed with Fitness

Formerly known as “Karma Classes,” join Campus Rec’s instructors for inclusive group fitness classes. Participation is free with donation of a non-perishable food item to benefit the Food Assistance and Well-Being Program. Offered Saturdays from September 3 through December 10. Registration opens 3 days prior to the class date and closes 1 hour before. Register in Active Illini.

Immerse with Sound and Self Reflection

Immerse yourself in these meditative resonating sounds created by singing bowls & chimes. This is a 90-minute class where the instructor will start with gentle yoga, then move into the sound bath, and end the class with journaling and self-reflection. There will be a guided movement practice to shift the body into a resting pose for the sound journey. Bring your journals & writing utensils if you wish to self reflect after the sound meditation.
