Campus Recreation’s new Director, Marcus Jackson has officially started his position at the University!
Marcus comes to Illinois from the University of Michigan where he most recently served as the Associate Director of Recreational Sports since 2014. Prior to that, he spent a total of 14 years in University Housing as an Associate Director of Residence Education in University Housing (UM) and an Assistant Director at Eastern Michigan University. Marcus also served as the PA announcer for Men’s and Women’s Basketball at Eastern Michigan University.
From 1997-2000, Marcus served as a Coordinator for Campus Recreation Programs and an Athletic Coordinator at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, and as an Assistant Director of Intramurals, Club Sports, Special Events and Summer Programs at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University.
Originally from California, Marcus enjoys spending time with his wife Susan, son Kaden (9), and daughter Riley (6), and attending or participating in sporting events.
If you see Marcus around the building, please give him a warm welcome!
Please be advised of Intersession Hours beginning on Saturday, August 5, and lasting through closing on Wednesday, August 23.
- During this time the ARC will operate on a reduced schedule while CRCE will be CLOSED
- Please note the Outdoor Pool hours for Saturday and Sunday are from 3-8 p.m.
- Volleyball & Badminton during Intersession:
- ARC Gym 4 court #3 will be set-up and have a priority for badminton on M/W/F/Su – 3 courts available
CURRENT LOCKER RENTERS:
All Rental Lockers (with the exception of those on payroll deduction) will expire:
ARC – Contents should be out of the facility unless renewing. Renewals for ARC are going on now. Renewals must be done in person at the member services desk, and a new locker renewal form as well as payment will be completed at this time.
CRCE – August 4, 2017. Clear contents out by facility close August 4 (lockers are being demolished). Those looking to renew their locker at CRCE are given priority to do so from August 25th – August 28th. More details were emailed to current locker renters. Renewals must be done in person at the member services desk, and a new locker renewal form as well as payment will be completed at this time. On August 28th, CRCE locker rentals will be open to all Campus Recreation members.
Campus Recreation is not responsible for any items left in rental or day use lockers after August 4th. Items will not be stored and all contents will be discarded or donated.
Ice Arena – In progress – August. Replacing refrigeration unit, ice mats, flooring and dasherboards.
Outdoor Center Fields & Complex Fields Fencing – Completed.
South Turf Fields – Completed.
ARC Gym 2 & 3 – In progress – August 20. The floors in ARC Gyms 2 and 3 are currently being replaced and should finish around August 20. Due to safety reasons, the Technogym Treadmills and Cybex Arc Trainers located between Gyms 2 and 3 on the entrance level are currently unavailable. Try the other great treadmill and Arc trainer options located on the top level.
CRCE MAC Gym – In progress – August 20. Replacing flooring.

The Ice Arena renovations are all on schedule. New lighting in the lobby has been installed, new dasherboards are up, refrigeration unit has been installed, ice mat has been laid, flooring has been laid in the main lobby and ice will start forming soon! Just a few more weeks until the facility will reopen.
Enjoy an afternoon filled with free food, t-shirts, giveaways and more at the ARC on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 11am-3pm. Campus Recreation and the Illini Union will be hosting a new event, Illini Frenzy, for students, faculty and staff to see what businesses and vendors are available within the community. Expect to see 60-80 vendors giving away free food, swag, giveaways and more! Get a henna or glitter tattoo, play Bubble Soccer or get a drawing done by a Speed Sketch Artist. Don’t miss out on this free event!
