Adventure Recreation
The climbing wall welcomes individuals with amputations & limb difference, paralysis, visual impairments & blindness, hearing impairments & deafness, TBI, neurological conditions, and more. Our staff is kind, supportive, and helpful! Adaptive climbers are also welcome during open climb hours, however, there is no guarantee that we will have staff on shift who are trained in operating the adaptive systems. We are working towards getting the entire staff trained.

Campus Recreation’s Learn to Swim program makes every effort to be inclusive to all individuals, regardless of age or swimming ability. Our program is designed to accommodate people with physical or developmental disabilities, if English is a secondary language, etc. We are able to accommodate preschool-aged children to adults seeking to gain pool safety knowledge and learn-to-swim skills.
If you are interested in discussing any accommodations, please email us at learntoswim@illinois.edu and we will be happy to explore options to ensure you or your child has a beneficial experience with us. In preparation for lessons, we will pair you with a fitting instructor, determine if a group or private lesson is most appropriate, and gather any other resources that will be necessary for the lesson. Please reach out with any questions or concerns, we are happy to serve you!
Campus Bike Center
The Campus Bike Center has purchased 2 hand cycles that will be available for checkout starting in Summer 2026. A helmet is required for all rentals or can be purchased at the Campus Bike Center

The Ice Arena has two adaptive sleds, one of which can be converted into an assisted sled. They can be checked out during open public skating. When you arrive, please pay at the skate window and then proceed to the Customer Service Office to ask for the sled. Our Zamboni driver will then assist you with getting the sled out of storage. We do ask that all participants are mindful that we only have two sleds available.
The Learn to skate program plans to make efforts in Fall 2026 regarding inclusivity to all individuals, regardless of age or skating ability. If you are interested in discussing any accommodations, please email us at learntoskate@illinois.edu and we will be happy to explore options to ensure you or your child has a beneficial experience with us.
Boccia is a Paralympic precision ball sport designed for athletes with physical disabilities affecting motor skills.
