University of Illinois Campus Recreation has been leading the way for students to continue their pursuit of healthy activities and to give them a platform to pursue personal goals. Through effective programming we encourage leadership and a sense of community. Here are two opportunities to give that will directly benefit students.

Jesse “Tony” Clements Scholarship

Campus Recreation and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, in partnership with the Department of Recreation, Sport, and Tourism, proudly established the Jesse “Tony” Clements Scholarship to recognize his extraordinary personal contributions and professional accomplishments; to perpetuate the impact of his unyielding commitment to supportive relationships; and to honor his unique legacy at the University of Illinois, in Champaign Urbana, and around the globe.

Tony joined the Division of Campus Recreation as a graduate student and he remained for 38 years. In 1979, he was named director at the age of 30, one of the first black men to hold that position at a major university in the United States. Learn more about Tony.

Barbara Hein Campus Recreation Internship Fund

Bobbi Hein worked for Campus Recreation from 1968-2001. Through her tenure here, Bobbi took literally hundreds of students under her wing. Many of them still keep in touch, sending holiday greetings, pictures of their families and enduring memories made possible by her gracious care.

The Barbara Hein Internship provides an opportunity to gain professional experience under the watchful eyes of the Director and the Campus Recreation staff. Leadership, networking, program evaluation and assessment are just a few of the aspects of the position that will help this individual grow and learn in a professional, progressive work environment.

The experience built through interpersonal relationships, effective communication, time management, and new opportunities exemplify the heart and soul of Bobbi’s commitment to Campus Recreation. We believe that this endowment is a well-deserved legacy that will keep Bobbi’s spirit of giving alive.

Campus Recreation Programming Fund

Campus Recreation plays a vital role in providing students with healthy alternatives to compliment their academic endeavors.

The Student Programming Fund would give Registered Organizations the opportunity to plan events at a discounted rate. These organizations are constantly looking for areas to gather and Campus Recreation would like to give them the help they need to expand their options.

With your help, these funds will allow student groups to expand their creative endeavors by offsetting costs for what would otherwise be a missed opportunity.
